On the 25th September 2016, Simon Law took on the Bristol Half Marathon, to mark the third anniversary since his heart attack. After three years of rehabilitation and training, he was finally at a stage of recovery where he was able to take on such a massive challenge. Since his heart attack, Simon has been looking for a way to give something back to the hospitals who provided him with excellent care and support in his time of need. He decided to specifically fundraise for Bristol Heart Institute through local charity, Above & Beyond.
This is when Simon and the Above & Beyond PR Team approached me to do a photo shoot. They wanted images to sit alongside a press release in the Bristol Post newspaper that outlined Simon’s story, not only to raise awareness, but also to raise money for this important cause. We shot a range of reportage images inside the BHI and the rehabilitation department of Bristol Royal Infirmary. In addition to this, Simon and I got up at the crack of dawn to do a creative shoot on the iconic Bristol Suspension Bridge. We wanted to convey his dedication to the half marathon and his ongoing recovery. This dramatic and impactful photograph portrays a good representation of what Simon does these days in order to remain fit and healthy. Not only was it a pleasure to be asked to shoot for Simon and the Above & Beyond team, but I also ended up running the Half Marathon with Simon too. It was great to have the Above & Beyond team cheering us on as we struggled past with only 2 miles to go. The only downside to the day was that Simon beat me!
